Brewing V60 Like a Pro
The V60 is one of the most rewarding ways to brew coffee at home, it gives you total control over extraction; but that also means technique matters. Mastering your pour technique, grind size, and timing will let you achieve clarity, sweetness, and complexity in every cup which works especially well for funky and flavourful coffees.
To brew exceptional V60 coffee, follow these steps:
Always Work with Clean Equipment
- Rinse your V60 and carafe with hot water before brewing
- Clean your brewer and server thoroughly after every use
- Keep your grinder clean to prevent old oils affecting flavor
Prep Your Ingredients
- Weigh your coffee and water every time for consistency. Place your cup and filter on top of scales to allow you to perfect the pour
- Use fresh, preferably filtered water
- Use freshly ground coffee at a medium grind size
Execute with Precision
- Heat water to 93–96°C (or just off the boil)
- Fold and place the filter paper into the V60
- Rinse the filter with hot water, then discard the rinse water (this is also a great time to pre-heat your cup)
- Add your ground coffee and gently tap the brewer to level the bed
- Tare your scale and start your timer as you begin pouring
- Always pour slowly and in a circular motion
