About Us
We opened our hatch coffee shop doors onto Hackney’s Mare Street in July 2024. Since then we’ve spent a lot of time:
1) Perfecting our brew, our milk and most importantly our chat.
2) Buying, and then figuring out how to use a canning machine.
3) Painting a lot of things red.

We accidentally began putting on clubs and events for our London Fields neighbours, from a running club to a crochet charity project. We currently host 6 weekly activities (and growing!) because apparently a love of caffeinated beverages really does build something that people keep coming back to.

We’ve built a lot, we repurposed our benches and tables (from our friends at Anatolia), our beloved loyalty wall and painted our iconic red staircase.

What's up the red staircase you may ask?... Well, it took as an entire year to nail our recipe, but in August 2025 we finally launched our cans of iced filter coffee which we brew, can and label all in house, with our every own hands (ahh its starting to make sense why we’re always behind on time). We sell these cans in our 'RL General Store' (vending machine) next to our Hackney hatch.

Our little team has grown from two to six people. We like to think that this has made us run a little less late, but in reality we have just created lots more projects and ideas to keep us all way too busy!

We’ve partnered with some truly talented people, from our incredible independent bakers who make all the baked goodies that we sell in store, to our guest coffee roasters who’s banging brews we have daily on batch filter.

We threw a massive first birthday party (don’t they grow up so fast!), and of course we kicked it all off with a relay race because who doesn’t want to be in their sweaty gym kit at a birthday bash, duh, before ending the evening munching on cake whilst listening to live music by some of our talented regulars.

We teamed up with absolute legends like Salomon, Asics, and Sweaty Betty for events we’re still buzzing about.
Oh, and we got voted one of the Top 40 Cafés in London in our first year.
Not bad.
At our core, we just want to make bloody good coffee; the kind that makes those cold rainy mornings a little less grim, your run a little faster, or to encourage your daily moan about the weather.
We’re independent, we’re always up for a natter, and we’re probably late on all the deadlines we’ve set for ourselves. But hey, we think we’re building something worth waiting for. We think anyway.
